International Women’s Day 2020 takes place on March 8th and it’s an annual celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women across the world.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is #EachforEqual. They say:
“An equal world is an enabled world. Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions – all day, every day. We can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.”
Brevity works with so many interesting clients of all genders, delivering marketing activity for businesses in sectors such as security, recruitment, logistics, technology, beauty and wellbeing, as well as charities.
For all of them, we could give you examples of ways in which they’re moving their respective industries forward with pioneering developments and supportive initiatives. However, to mark International Women’s Day, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the work some of our female clients are doing, especially where they are supporting other women…
Lynda Cant, Therapist and Life Coach
Lynda Cant is a former company director and board member for a FTSE 100 company who now offers wellbeing services to corporate and private clients, including coaching and mentoring, building emotional resilience, leadership skills and mindfulness practices. She is trained in neurolinguistic programming (NLP), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and rapid transformational therapy (RTT).
Many women from the UK and overseas have been able increase their confidence, performance and productivity at work, and find a happier balance between their professional responsibilities and commitments at home, because of the valuable support and empowering therapy Lynda provides.
Maxine Hart, Operations Director, Wote Street People
In her work at Basingstoke recruitment agency Wote Street People, Maxine is passionate about raising awareness of the issues that can affect women at work, such flexible working, the menopause and equal pay.
Maxine was the recipient of the ‘Above and Beyond Award’ at the Place to Be Proud of Awards 2019. The accolade was in recognition of all the voluntary work she does on top of her busy role matching local people with the right companies, and vice versa.
Her workshops on CV writing, interview skills, building your ‘personal brand’ to help get a job, and social media awareness have enabled many women (and men) to realise their professional ambitions. She has also lent her skills, voice and support to the Basingstoke Consortium Skillstree programme, which helps young people understand the world of employment though work experience.
As trustee and volunteer for the M3 Job Club, Maxine also provides support and guidance for professionals, such as interviewing courses for line managers and one-to-one CV reviews.
And as if that wasn’t enough, Wote Street People supports The Pink Place, who offer free well-being and support services for women living in the area who are experiencing cancer, as well as their partners.
Emma Silcox, Owner, The Beauty Spot
Since Emma first took over this Basingstoke beauty salon over 7 years ago, it has grown into the thriving business it is today, with an outstanding reputation for offering a wide range of quality treatments for face and body.
So much so, that during that time she’s had to expand her premises more than once and has taken on an all-female team of beauty therapists to keep up with client demand.
A constant evolution of skills and training in all the latest beauty and wellbeing treatments, combined with her empathetic nature, has meant Emma has been able to help many women gain more confidence and improve their wellbeing.
Deep down, we all know that real beauty comes from the inside, but self-perceived ‘flaws’ can contribute to the low-self-esteem that sometimes hold us back personally, professionally and socially. From acne scarring, to unwanted hair, to back pain – Emma and her team help so many female (and male) clients boost their energy and confidence.
Emma comments: “People leave here feeling uplifted, refreshed and ready to conquer – whether they are off on holiday, to a special occasion, or just going home after their monthly pamper. They go away feeling happier than when they come in – and that is why I love my job.”
Erika Conti, Owner, Sola Mia
Selling her collection of Italian inspired fashion for women under the ‘Solo Mia’ brand, Erika brings a new style of shopping to Basingstoke and Hampshire. From pop-ups, to catwalk events and even her own showroom in Oakley, Erika’s fashion wisdom offers women a personal shopping experience with lots of lovely clothing and accessories. The fabulous colours and fabrics as well as Erika’s styling advice, helps boost women’s confidence and makes them feel fantastic.
She also teams up for exclusive events with local colour consultants and fashion stylists to further enhance the shopping experience.
Kaia Vincent, Director, Brevity Marketing
As the Director of an all-female marketing agency in Hampshire, Kaia is also doing her bit to help women work flexibly in a calm, supportive and respectful environment.
The Basingstoke Observer recently reported on our flexible working policies, including our move to a 4-day week.
One in four people overwork by 10 hours or more a week, according to the CIPD UK Working Lives survey. Around 70% of the 2,063 people surveyed also claimed a four-day working week would improve their mental wellbeing. It’s certainly given us more balance and allowed our creativity to flourish.
For Brevity’s PR Manager Jenny, being able to work flexibly around her children means she can be there for them while delivering the results clients need. Account Manager Samantha is also proud to work for a company that supports working Mums.
Copywriter Kelly appreciates Brevity’s flexible working policy because it allows her to do poetry courses and work on her own writing projects. Naomi is broadening her design skills by studying with Central St. Martins outside work, too.
Adventurous, balanced and real – Brevity Marketing is marketing agency based in Hampshire offering affordable monthly marketing services to SMEs. For more information call 01256 536 000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
