How an Alzheimer’s charity is getting noticed at The Conservative Party conference

I can say it was a pleasant surprise to discover the charity Alzheimer’s Society using a such an approach in its campaign marketing to #CureTheCareSystem.

The number of people with dementia is steadily increasing

Research shows that, in 2019, there were over 850,000 people with dementia in the UK (Alzheimer’s Society, 2019). This represents 1 in every 14 of the population aged 65 years and over. In 2040, it is predicted that there will be over 1.5 million people with dementia in the UK. And with the Government’s recent announcement on social care funding, it is more important than ever for Alzheimer’s Society to be talking to politicians about how best plan social care for the future.

What was the Marketing automation process?

Firstly, I received an email asking me to invite my local MP Tim Loughton to visit the Alzheimer’s Society stand at the Conservative Party conference, which starts on Sunday 3rd October 2021. The party conferences give Alzheimer’s Society a vital platform to talk to political parties and engage with various politicians and decision makers, so inviting MPs to call by the stand gives the charity the chance to influence social care policies.

After clicking the CTA ‘INVITE YOUR MP TO VISIT OUR STAND’ button, I go through to a landing page where I can choose a priority (Everyone must be able to access social care when they need it) and the image will be automatically added to the email to my MP. I also fill out fields for my name and address to determine my MP’s details. The automation rule set-up then triggers an email to MP Tim Loughton telling him I want him to visit the Alzheimer’s Society stand during the conference. Subsequently, the automation triggers an email notification advising that the invitation has been sent. I’m sure more notifications will arrive in my inbox with information about the outcomes.

To summarise:

1) I receive an email from the Charity
2) Get navigated to a landing page with a form to complete
3) After form completion (provided access to add my contact details + MP details)
4) Automation rule set-up triggers personalised email to MP advising that I want him to visit the Alzheimer’s Society stand
5) A final notification is triggered alerting me that an email has been sent to MP Tim Loughton
